Sheldon Silver, probably the most powerful person in New York politics, just gave Caroline the okay. That means that Paterson, who has been dragged his feet on the nomination, will probably give her the position soon. My guess is that Silver and Paterson were strong armed by some major muscle in the Democratic party. They have no reason to support her.
