Question of the Day - Overwhelmed

I am paralyzed. Too much to do. Where to start first? Grade? Buy the boys new pants? Figure out the remaining Christmas purchases? Plan the menu for two parties? Start Christmas cards? Play video games (thanks Megan. Not.)?

Question of the Day: What do you have to do today?

Question of the Day - Drug Store Chocolate

I've consumed vast quantities of Halloween candy this week. I'm about to locate the kid's stash and pull out the best for lunch. I'm fond of the Reese's Pieces. If they're gone, I'll go for the Snickers or the Kitkats.

Question of the Day: What's the best of the Halloween treats?

Question of the Day - Middle Class Markers

90 percent of Americans define themselves as middle class. Clearly, that's impossible, but many poor and wealthy people are a little confused.

The issue of class has been an underlying current in the comment section of this blog all week. Some say that markers of wealth include handbags and house cleaners. Is taking a year to find yourself or a backpacking trip through Europe a marker of wealth? Or is it all about the ratio of income to debt? What is average?

Question of the Day: What is middle class? What is wealthy?

Question of the Day -- Explaining Your Job to A Kid

Finished the paper. I just sent it to Steve and asked him if he could proof it, please. Yeah, that would be great. [Channeling the voice of the boss from Office Space.]

This afternoon with my head still on the paper, I took a break to feed Jonah. I explained why I've been ignoring him all week and giving him carte blanche on the Game Cube. I told him I am writing a paper for a conference in Chicago next week. I'm going to meet with all the other professors. We're going to get all dressesd up. I'm going to get on a stage and read my paper with a microphone and then they are going to raise their hands and tell me how their dissertations relate to my paper.

Jonah is not sure what he thinks about this conference except that he hopes they happen more often so that he can have more time on the Game Cube.

Steve just tells the kids he's a banker, because his job is rather confusing. I don't have a firm grip on what he does, and when he starts using words like "flex deals" and "the repo documentation," I'm completely befuddled.

I actually had the hardest time explaining to the kids, and well everyone else, what my job was when I was a stay at home parent without the professor bit, too.

Question of the Day: How do you describe your job to kids?

Question of the Day -- New England Flicks

Sitting in lounge chairs on the Cape Cod beach, Steve and I tried to think of the best movies set in New England. Here's our list:

1. Mystic Pizza. Five points went to me for noting that Matt Damon has a small walk on scene.
2.Mystic River.
3. Good Will Hunting
4. The World According to Garp.  Still chuckle at the "gradual student" line.

But that's as far as we got. Strange, huh? I could easily think of fifty movies set in NYC.

Question of the Day: Can you think of more movies set in New England? If you guys can't flesh the list out, then explain why Hollywood hates Beantown.

Question of the Day - Vacation Plans

In two weeks, we'll be on the road to Yarmouth, Cape Cod. We found a hotel that entertains your kids while you drink by the pool and the beach. We're really looking forward to it, because this is our first vacation for longer than a weekend that does not involve relatives in ten years. Really psyched. Cape Cod seems to be the perfect combination of beach and non-beach activities (shopping and eating) for tan-challenged redheads. Thanks to Wendy for the Cape Cod suggestions.

Question of the Day:
What are your vacation plans for the summer?
