Speaking of smart and stupid...
If you just met Ian, you might think he was slow. His speech is clumsy and he acts like he's a year or two younger than he is. But then he'll do something unusual.
Today, I was helping Jonah set up for homework and Ian asked me for a screwdriver. I absent mindedly handed him one and continued unpacking Jonah's backpack. When I turned around, Ian had disassembled a small toy car. It was in six or seven pieces. I said, "Ian, what did you do?" and tried putting it back together. Ian watched me fumble and grabbed back the car. "Let me do it." I lost interest and went back to Jonah's work. When I turned around again, the car had been correctly reassembled and the screws tightened fully.
Later, Jonah, who has been getting As on all his exams, decided to test the strength of his athletic cup by slamming a baseball bat into his crotch.

The wheels of justice grind slow, but they do grind, sometimes:
"The St. Lucie County School Board voted unanimously Tuesday night to suspend without pay Morningside Elementary School teacher Wendy Portillo for one year after she allowed her kindergarteners to vote on whether 5-year-old Alex Barton could remain in class.
Board members acted on a recommendation by Superintendent of Schools Michael Lannon, who also recommended that Portillo be put on an annual contract -- Portillo had been tenured -- and plans to ask the state Board of Education to revoke her teaching certificate for one year.
Lannon wrote Portillo a letter stating that her actions "caused community and, in fact, worldwide outrage and condemnation."
