10 Ways that Technology Has Changed My Job

It's hard to imagine a more stodgy, traditional profession than academia. Tweed jackets with patches on the sleeves. Yet, our job has changed radically in the past five years due to technology.

Ten ways that technology has changed my job:

I refuse to teach MLA documentation any more. Use CitationMachine or Noodlewhatever. I don't care. I do teach *why* we use MLA documentation and cite sources, but I refuse to teach "Last Name, First Name, BLAH BLAH BLAH."

I have been using Del.icio.us with my composition classes to share research. Collaboration tools in Web 2.0 also enable me to do more group projects.

I wish I could use technology to get rid of textbooks in my classes, but alas, my institution would not be happy about that. But I supplement a *lot* with things I find on the web.

E-mail in general makes it easier to give information to students. I can e-mail them the assignment when I write it, usually late. :)
