An old grad school mate used to work at a university library. His pet peeve was students who were looking for Genesis (also for class reading) and didn't know how to find it in the library.
This rather undercuts the position that it doesn't matter if you don't know stuff, since you can always look it up. Firstly, you may not know what you don't know. Secondly, lack of basic general knowledge makes a lousy impression on people who do know the stuff.
